Functional management skills can be adapted by a good manager to several situations and sectors. Management education today needs a fine balancing act on several fronts. I would like to touch upon one such balancing act we are engaged in. There is an increasing tendency to emphasize "sectors" of our economy that are currently booming - eg. IT, Retail, Real Estate etc. But we would still not like to give up educating students in the classical tradition of functional management disciplines. Our view is that the "fashionable" sectors will keep changing. But functional management skills can be adapted by a good manager to several situations and sectors. However, in order to stay contemporary, we have made arrangements to bring industry experts from such sectors to impart knowledge.

This involves the students spending additional hours in the classroom. We have found encouraging response from the students to this approach of ours. We believe that this helps them become better managers for the market place.
